1) Greek Ladies Association: Approximately 60 years ago (1924) Greek ladies used to gather together and organise friendly functions. These ladies used to help the Red Cross and other charitable institutions. During World War II they offered Greece countless services that were mostly financial. In the course of time the community became bigger and at the same time the Association's responsibilities and obligations grew. So, because of its many and various activities, the Association was recognised officially by the government as a Philanthropic Society. The basic Association's aim is to grant moral and financial support to disadvantaged expatriate Hellenes, as well as to help various societies. Also, special assistance is offered, when there is need, as well as a monthly allowance which is provided mostly to elderly women. The Association's incomes come mostly from various events, like the sale of lottery tickets, auctions, premiers, cake sales etc. For many years and up to today, the Chairlady is Mrs Kiki Divaris who with her restless activities managed to turn the Association into a considerable and respectable one, not only amongst Hellenes but also amongst others of Zimbabwe citizens, irrespective of race. Under Kiki Divaris' presidency the association managed to collect and distribute funds and other material help which during the last 15 years is estimated to be in total $ 250,000. This aid was directed towards the School and other big Community projects, as well as to all Zimbabwe's educational and philanthropic institutions or programmes. Our Hellenic Ladies are always present in times of need, and one can say that they are the Community's philanthropic “department”, so they contribute significantly to the development of the Hellenic reputation in Zimbabwe.
